Hluhluwe Mountain Biking Trails

The Hluhluwe area offers excellent mountain biking trails from the doorstep of your chalet at Nibela Lake Lodge. The Nibela Peninsula, False Bay Park and St Lucia Wetlands Park have a number of excellent routes for novice to experienced riders looking to escape to the great outdoors on two wheels. Here are our recommendations for Hluhluwe mountain biking trails.

Hluhluwe mountain biking trails

False Bay Park

False Bay Park is situated along the western shore of False Bay, Lake St Lucia. It lies within the iSimangalio Wetlands Park. The park features sand forest, savannah and thornveld. There are two dedicated hiking and biking trails and riders can look out for lots of birdlife, red duikers, nyala, zebra and other wildlife.

Distance: +/- 20km
Terrain: Sand tracks, gravel roads, relatively flat.

St Lucia Wetlands Park

The Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park is a World Heritage Site made up of about 250 000 hectares of lakes, islands and estuaries. The park offers plenty of opportunities for mountain biking at False Bay and St Lucia Estuary. There are rides suitable for novice and expert riders and distances varying in length from 15 to 25km on sand tracks, trails, gravel roads and tar roads.

Distance: 15–25km
Terrain: Sand tracks, trails, gravel roads, tarred roads.

Hluhluwe activities

Fossil Point Trail

The Fossil Point Trail is located on the Nibela Peninsula and is ideal for families with children keen on mountain biking. The trail is just under 6.5km and follows quad biking trails and gravel roads to Fossil Point along the edge of the Peninsula. You’ll be able to enjoy beautiful views of the lake and a relatively easy ride through forested trails.

Distance: 6.4km
Terrain: Relatively flat gravel roads.

Shoreline Trail

The Shoreline trail is a little longer than the Fossil Point trail at roughly 9km, also on the Nibela Peninsula. Both trails are easily accessible from Nibela Lake Lodge. This trail however follows sandy, gravel tracks along the entire shoreline of the peninsula, offering almost 180 degree views of the surrounding lake.

Distance: 9.05km
Terrain: Gravel roads, relatively flat.
